2015 Best Paper Award for Early Career Scholars

Sponsored by the Remote Sensing Specialty Group of the Association of American Geographers

Call for Applications
Deadline: 31 October 2014

In recognition of the 100th Anniversary of the Association of American Geographers (AAG) in 2004, the AAG Remote Sensing Specialty Group (RSSG) established a competition to recognize “exemplary research scholarship in remote sensing” by post-doctoral students and faculty in Geography and allied fields. Qualified persons are invited to submit a journal manuscript for the 2015 Best Paper Award for Early Career Scholars in Remote Sensing. Applicants must have earned the Ph.D. within the last six years (2008-2014) and be a member of the AAG RSSG (or file for membership in the AAG RSSG). The competition will be held in conjunction with the 2015 AAG Meeting in Chicago. The recipient will receive a certificate and their paper will be recommended for publication in Photogrammetric Engineering and Remote Sensing (PE&RS). The award will be announced at the AAG Business Meeting of the RSSG and recognized at the AAG Honors Luncheon.

The competition will be based solely on the quality and scientific merit of a submitted manuscript that must be prepared in accordance with the format and paper length limitations of the PE&RS journal (http://www.asprs.org/PE-RS-Submissions-Policy-and-Guidelines/PE-RS-Instructions- for-Authors-Submitting-a-Manuscript-for-Peer-Review.html). Multi-authored manuscripts are eligible; but the applicant should be the first author, and should also submit a statement indicating that she/he is responsible for over 50% of the research and writing of the paper. Manuscripts submitted for award consideration should not have been submitted elsewhere and should not be in review by any journal. Manuscripts will be evaluated by external reviewers and the RSSG Awards Committee. The Awards Committee reserves the right to cancel this award due to insufficient quality or quantity of submissions.

Important note on color figures and page charges: The Awardee is responsible for paying the journal for any color figure and page charges, and must agree to pay any such charges before their paper will be considered for the Award. Black and white figures are free of charge in PE&RS; color figures cost $1,000 for one, $1650 for two, and $575 for each additional figure. The first 7 manuscript pages are free, with page charges being $125 for each additional page (a 24-26 page pdf that is double-spaced with figures and tables included is usually about 7 pages). Applicants should consider submitting figures in B&W and keeping their manuscript to a reasonable length unless they are willing to pay the charges.

To apply, send a pdf digital copy of your manuscript and your current C.V., as well as a completed and signed copy of the RSSG cover letter (http://www.asprs.org/PE-RS- Submissions-Policy-and-Guidelines/Cover-Letter-for-Peer-Reviewed-Manuscripts.html) to Ming Hung, Chair of the AAG RSSG Awards Committee (mhung@nwmissouri.edu) by October 31, 2014.

Please do not send the letter or any part of your application to the PE&RS Editor.
